Review of Castlerigg Hall Campsite

We enjoyed four fabulous nights staying at Castlerigg Hall in Keswick. We rarely stay more than three nights anywhere, so we were unsure how we'd feel staying in one place for so long. Actually we could have had a week there and still loved it! There are lots of great walking opportunities straight from site, including Walla Crag, Catbells and Keswick town.

The campsite is extremely well maintained and I love that they offer touring pitches, glamping pods and holiday hire caravans. This place is really so accessible to anyone wanting to visit the area! Click here to read more about our Lake District adventure.

The site is very steep but the vast majority of touring pitches are on level terraces. The site was busy, but so beautifully spaced out that we really hardly saw anyone else. The pitch we booked was a ‘superior pitch’ which secured us a lake view. During peak times and weekends, these pitches are in high demand, so book early to avoid disappointment. The site had spectacular views over Derwent Water!

There is a small shop on site, that is very well stocked and reasonably priced. At the time of writing this, the shop is operating a one way system with a screen to separate you from the cashier when paying. The toilets and shower blocks are immaculate - well ventilated with the main doors open. They are currently operating a band system to ensure only six people are using the facilities at any one time and they ask you to use the hand sanistier provided before you enter.

When entering the campsite, it operates on ANPR which made us feel very safe. Only those that should be there were. No visitors are allowed on site at the moment due to government Covid19 guidance. Wardens were also seen regularly checking things were as they should be. For those that require laundry facilities, there are three washing machines and tumble dryers which is particularly useful if, like us, you have a very day on the fells!
