Review of Llech Campsite, North Wales

Llech Camping and Touring Site is an absolute gem of a campsite that I almost don’t want to share! A rustic campsite with only 17 pitches, it is hidden away between Harlech and Porthmadog, within the Snowdonia National Park, with stunning views across the estuary towards Portmeirion! Is there a better location for a campsite?

Llech Campsite is privately owned and run by owners Heidi and Dave, which instantly makes the site more personable and welcoming. Only 5 of the 17 pitches have electric hook up, so you really do need to book in advance if you want to secure an electric hook up! There are two areas to the campsite. The main field is surrounded by trees, with space for all and has all the non electric pitches. The area with the electric pitches is on a gentle slope, so I would recommend levelling blocks.

Things we loved:
❤️ Location - the views are breathtaking in all directions and in any weather! The campsite is a real hidden gem, surrounded with endless places to walk and explore. When the tide is out, you can easily walk across the estuary to get a closer look at Portmeirion or explore little islands.
❤️ Views - the surrounding hills instantly make you relax and the sunsets are on another level.
❤️ Family friendly - owners Heidi and Dave are very welcoming and friendly.
❤️ Dog wash area - this area is really useful after a day exploring, particularly if you’ve been walking on the beach.

Other things to note:
➡️ This is the smallest campsite we’ve ever stayed on. It has one toilet and one shower, but whilst this doesn’t sound a lot, they are perfectly adequate for the number of people on site at any one time.
➡️ There is a small on site shop which is open 5-7pm every evening. It sells some great essentials - torches, tent pegs, cans of drink, ice cream and chocolate etc
➡️Fire pits are allowed. You can hire them directly and buy logs too.
➡️There are some benches overlooking the estuary, which are perfect for evening picnics or a drink.

➡️You can launch kayaks from the site entrance, but be mindful of the tide times. Heidi and Dave have these displayed near the entrance.

Things to do:

The campsite’s waterside location means it is perfect for kayaking or swimming, depending on the tide times. It would also be great for crabbing or fishing, walking or cycling the surrounding area.

For full disclosure, we were invited to stay at Llech Campsite, however all thoughts and opinions are my own.
